HC Deb 14 June 1993 vol 226 c406W
Sir Cranley Onslow

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what steps he is taking to ensure that EC proposals for the harmonisation of electrical plug and socket systems do not damage the interests of United Kingdom industry and commerce.

Mr. Sainsbury

My Department is working closely with the relevant trade associations to ensure that the interests of the United Kingdom industry—in particular, manufacturers of domestic appliances, plugs and sockets—are reflected in the harmonisation proposals coming forward, while recognising that consumer safety issues are also important.
