asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many children are at present named on local authority child protection registers and how many of them are respectively of primary and secondary school age; and

During the most recent convenient period of 12 months, how many children named on local authority child protection registers are known to have suffered non-accidental injury or sexual abuse, and how many similar cases are known to have occurred in the same period involving children of primary and secondary school age who were not named on those registers.

The information available centrally on the numbers of children on child protection registers is given in the table. Information is not available centrally about the number of children known to have suffered non-accidental injury or sexual abuse, whether on child protection registers or not.
