§ 19. Mr. GalbraithTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the total number of people he appoints to quangos and the total remuneration given to them.
§ Mr. LangAs at 1 September last year, I made just under 4,000 public appointments. The majority of them are not paid. For those where a salary is paid, the total amount of remuneration, at the same date, was £2.1 million. This figure does not include a number of appointments which are fee paid and where, of course, the amount of fee depends on the days of attendance.
