§ Mr. McMasterTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has any plans to increase the level of payments to elected members of local authorities for(a) attendance, (b) special responsibility, (c) travelling and (d) subsistence; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Stewart[holding answer 7 June 1993]: All the payments to members of local authorities by way of allowances and travel and subsistence were increased earlier this year. The comments received from the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities on the first year's operation of the new system introduced in April 1991 are being considered in the wider context of local government reform and the review of internal management.
