HL Deb 08 June 1993 vol 546 cc53-4WA
Lord Trefgarne

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When the Minister for Overseas Development last met her EC colleagues to discuss development issues; and what was decided.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (Baroness Chalker of Wallasey)

I attended the Development Council in Brussels on 25th May. The Council agreed on future work to improve the co-ordination of EC development policies, starting with poverty and health issues. It agreed resolutions on emergency assistance, rehabilitation in some sub-Saharan African countries, South Africa and on human rights, democracy and development. The council also discussed the situation in a number of specific African countries, the follow-up to UNCED, women in development and population policy.
