Funding for agricultural research and development relating to Wales and England is the responsibility of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. The Welsh Office Agriculture Department produces and sends to MAFF an annual strategy document setting out research and development priorities for agriculture in Wales, and discusses research and development programmes for individual sectors in detail with MAFF before they are implemented. It does not, however, fund direct research and development programmes itself.
§ Dr. StrangTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many people were employed, for each year since 1978, directly by the Welsh Department of Agriculture on research and development programmes related to agriculture, fisheries and food; and how many people were employed, for each year since 1978, on Welsh Department of Agriculture research and development programmes commissioned from outside.
