To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment when his Department is required to reply to the European Commission inquiry over the applicability of EC directive 82/501/EEC to the operation of the toxic waste incinerator by ReChem at Pontypool.

Mr. Yeo

The United Kingdom Government were required to respond within two months of receipt of the letter from the EC Commission which was dated 18 February 1993. Our permanent representative to the EC sent his response on 16 April 1993.
