To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many letters he has received over the past 12 months from the general public about the issue of harmonising the ages of pension entitlement for men and women; and if he will make a statement.

Since the consultation document "Options for Equality in State Pension Age" was published in December 1991, we have received over 4,000 responses from members of the public. The Government are committed to the equalisation of state pension age. We will announce our proposals in due course.
