Mr. Simon Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the timetable for Government decision in relation to grant levy available to housing associations for the financial year 1994–95; and if he will make a statement.

Grant rates will be announced in time for the next annual bidding round.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what advice he has had from the Housing Corporation about private finance for housing associations; and when he expects to announce the grant rates for next year.

We have received initial advice from the corporation about the grant rate for 1994–95. There are a number of areas on which we have asked the corporation for further information and we are currently awaiting its response. Grant rates will be announced in time for the next annual bidding round.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will publish the advice he has received from the Housing Corporation on grant levy available to housing associations for 1994–95, on private finance, and on other related issues; and if he will make a statement.

We have no plans to publish the advice we receive from the board of the Housing Corporation.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list for each of the 20 largest housing associations the most recent figures for the amount of annual Government grant they receive, the number of houses under their management and the ratio between the two.

Housing associations provide a wide diversity of accommodation from general family housing to homes for those with special needs. Allocations of housing association grant in any year depend on an individual association's ability to meet priority housing needs cost effectively. The amount of grant received in any year will therefore vary. The allocation figures represent the total grant cost of new schemes which the associations are invited to bring forward for approval during the course of the year. The figures for the 1993–94 allocations for the 20 largest housing associations are as follows:
