To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will list the buildings currently owned or rented by his Department, together with(a) the estimated value, (b) the annual rent and (c) the annual maintenance cost of each building in the current financial year.

My Department occupies space in 250 buildings, the majority on the common user estate operated by Property Holdings. The information requested on individual buildings cannot be given on grounds of disproportionate cost and commercial sensitivity. Total estimates for the rent and maintenance costs of properties on the common user estate are published in the supply estimates. On DTI's departmental estate, the cost of rent will be about £8.4 million and for maintenance £4.9 million in 1993–94.

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what is the estimated amount to be spent in 1993–94 in rent and other associated costs with the offices of his Department in Victoria street, London.

[holding answer 27 May 1993]: My Department's accommodation in Victoria street will cost some £19.7 million in 1993–94, covering rent, maintenance and the contribution in lieu of rates.
