HL Deb 28 July 1993 vol 548 c133WA
Baroness Hooper

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What representations they are making to the Government of Sudan in relation to humanitarian and human rights issues.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

Our main concerns are Sudan's failure to settle the civil war in the south, the continuing humanitarian crisis in many parts of the country and persistent reports of human rights abuses. We take every suitable opportunity to raise these issues with the Government of Sudan, both bilaterally, and with our EC partners and other donor states. Her Majesty's Ambassador to Sudan plays a key role in the difficult task of conveying our concerns directly to the authorities in Khartoum.
