HL Deb 28 July 1993 vol 548 c128WA
Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will amplify the Answer given by Baroness Chalker of Wallasey at col. WA1 on 24th May 1993 in the light of evidence dated 20th July 1987 that Seaconsar Far East Ltd of Hong Kong provided reinsurance for the provision of parts of explosive shells to Iran by subcontractors which included a British company, Allivane UK.

Baroness Denton of Wakefield

The Government are aware of the evidence referred to by the noble Lord. Allegations about the role of Allivane International Limited in exporting arms and military equipment to Iran were investigated by Her Majesty's Customs in 1987–88. No prosecution was begun. Lord Justice Scott has asked questions about Allivane International in the context of his inquiry into the export of defence equipment and dual use goods to Iraq.
