HL Deb 28 July 1993 vol 548 c127WA
Lord Mason of Barnsley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether in considering the issue of General Service Medal clasps, they will recognise the tours undertaken by HM Forces in Northern Ireland and in the former Yugoslavia.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Ministry of Defence (Viscount Cranborne)

Members of the Armed Forces who serve in Northern Ireland are eligible for the General Service Medal 1962 with clasp "Northern Ireland". We are considering whether Service personnel, who carry out frequent tours of duty in theatres which attract the award of the General Service Medal, should receive additional recognition for their service. The question of a British award for service in the former Yugoslavia is also under consideration.
