Mr. Meacher

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland, pursuant to his answer of 15 July,Official Report, columns 647–48, whether his Department maintains a register of the interests of chairpersons or board members of the executive non-departmental public bodies sponsored by his Department.

Mr. Lang

No.

Dr. Wright

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many of the public bodies for which he is responsible hold meetings in public; and if he will list them.

Mr. Lang

The Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 as amended by the Local Government (Access to Information) Act 1985 does not apply to any of the non-departmental public bodies for which I am responsible. Non-departmental public bodies are not required to hold meetings in public and do not normally do so. Health boards are covered by the Public Bodies (Admission to Meetings) Act 1960. NHS trusts are not covered by the Act, but are required to hold one public meeting each year.
