§ Mr. Callaghan
To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate the current level of personal debt in the United Kingdom.

§ Mr. Nelson
The estimated financial liabilities of the personal sector at end-December 1992 were £488.2 billion. Details of the composition of this figure can be found in table 14.8 of the July 1993 edition of "Financial Statistics" or on the Central Statistical Office database; both sources are available in the Library.
