2. Information collected centrally records only the main specialty of a doctor. No information is therefore available on the number of doctors who work in paediatrics but for whom this specialty constitutes an area of 'special interest' (second specialty).
§ Dr. GodmanTo ask Secretary of State for Scotland how many vacant posts of consultant paediatricians have been notified by each of the health boards in each of the past five years; on average how long it takes to fill such posts; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Stewart[holding answer 26 July 1993]: Information on vacant posts is available centrally only if an established post has been vacant for a period of at least six months during the year ending 30 September. For the years ending September 1989 to September 1992, only one such vacancy for consultant paediatrician was notified; it was in Greater Glasgow health board in the year ending 30 September 1991. No information is available centrally for the year ending 30 September 1988.
