To ask the President of the Board of Trade when the term of office of the present Director General of Ofgas ends; and if he will make a statement.

Sir James McKinnon's second term of office as Director General of Gas Supply expires in August 1994. Earlier this year, Sir James announced his intention to retire on 31 October 1993. We have, therefore, initiated the process of identifying a successor and an announcement will be made in due course.
