HC Deb 27 July 1993 vol 229 c943W
Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the President of the Board of Trade, pursuant to his answer of 13 July,Official Report, column 433, how the plutonium content of the final fuel loading of the prototype fast reactor at Dounreay is dependent upon the operational programme.

Mr. Eggar

The plutonium content of nuclear reactor fuel changes during operation as a result of nuclear reactions in the core. The amount of plutonium in the fuel of the prototype fast reactor at Dounreay when the reactor is shut down in 1994 will therefore depend on the reactor performance and also on the timing and extent of any refuelling that may be required.
