HC Deb 27 July 1993 vol 229 c940W
Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will make a statement on the report prepared by his Department on the options available to open up decommissioning and radioactive waste management operations to competition.

Mr. Eggar

The Government are concerned to ensure maximum cost-effectiveness in their expenditure on decommissioning and radioactive waste mangement operations. For new projects, the aim will be to put every contract out to competition unless there is a clear reason why this would not provide best value for money. We are also systematically reviewing projects currently under way to establish whether there is scope for increased competition.

Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will set out a breakdown of the allocation of expenditure to British Nuclear Fuels, waste management and decommissioning, respectively, under his departmental resource allocation in part 5 of his management information system for Ministers 1993 returns.

Mr. Eggar

The available information is published in MINIS 93, part 5: energy, the entry for atomic energy division.
