HC Deb 27 July 1993 vol 229 cc838-9W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what further research she intends to initiate into links between the use of folic acid and reduction in birth defects and heart disease.

Mr. Sackville

[holding answer 23 July 1993]: The Department is currently exploring ways in which the mechanisms being set up to monitor the prevalence of neural tube defects following the issue of advice about folic acid in pregnancy, can be enhanced to include the prevalence of other common and major defects. Copies of the advice PL/CMO(92)18 and PL/CNO(92)12 are available in the Library.
