HC Deb 27 July 1993 vol 229 cc854-5W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what plans he has to remove the right of access under the Data Protection Act 1984 to computerised personnel and immigration records held as personal data; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

None.

Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement in relation to progress being made towards agreement on the proposed European Commission directive on data protection; and in which areas there is still disagreement between member states.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

I refer the hon. Member to my reply to a question from him on 31 March at column220. The Council working party has concluded its initial consideration of the revised text of the draft directive. It has started a second reading, on the basis of a text containing amendments proposed by the Belgian presidency.
