HC Deb 27 July 1993 vol 229 cc933-4W
Mrs. Gorman

To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he has estimated the cost to British industry of implementing the measures announced to date for achieving a saving of 10 million tonnes of carbon, per annum.

Mr. McLoughlin

I refer my hon. Friend to the reply which she received from my hon. Friend the Minister for the Environment and Countryside on 6 July 1993 at column78.

My hon. Friend

will also wish to note the statement on 16 March 1993 Official Report, column 183, by my right hon. Friend the Member for Kingston upon Thames (Mr. Lamont) that the measures which he was introducing to help meet our environmental commitments would do so in a way which does the least possible damage to the competitiveness to British industry; and that my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment yesterday announced that the Government will be strengthening the Energy Efficiency Office's programmes of advice and information to help business make energy savings, as part of the Government's programme for meeting its international commitments for limiting carbon dioxide emissions.
