HC Deb 27 July 1993 vol 229 c877W
Mr. Dalyell

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is Her Majesty's Government's policy on the use of taxation policy to reduce carbon emissions to the levels recommended by the evaluation carried out by the Meteorological Office.

Sir John Cope

The Government's policy to ensure that the United Kingdom meets its commitments in the climate change convention, signed at Rio in June 1992, is set out in the answer that my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment gave in reply to a written question from my hon. Friend the Member for Castle Point (Dr. Spink) on 26 July 1993, at columns709–10. This refers to the taxation measures announced in the March budget to increase the price of energy in the domestic and transport sectors.
