HC Deb 26 July 1993 vol 229 cc568-9W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many countries from the far east have deposited their entries for the United Nations arms register.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

To date we understand that 10 countries from the Asia Pacific region have submitted data to the United Nations register of conventional arms. The United Nations Secretary General will report in the autumn on the register's first year of operation and on the data received from member states. The United Nations Resolution establishing the register requests that such data be forwarded to the United Nations Secretary General. We do not therefore see copies of other member states' returns as a matter of course. With our European partners, we are actively encouraging those states who have yet to submit data to do so.
