HC Deb 26 July 1993 vol 229 c639W
Mr. Rathbone

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what plans he has to improve community care assessment arrangements for drug misusing prisoners remanded in custody or sentenced.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

Responsibility for this matter has been delegated to the Director General of the Prison Service, who has been asked to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from Mr. D. Lewis to Mr. Tim Rathbone, dated 26 July 1993: The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your recent question about plans to improve community care assessment arrangements for drug misusing prisoners remanded in custody or sentenced. The arrangements for assessment for community care for people in contact with the Criminal Justice System were published recently in Home Office Circular 29/1993. A copy of this Circular is enclosed, it is also available in the library. We are currently undertaking a review of services provided for drug misusers in prison with the aim of producing a comprehensive strategy to address drug misuse. Preparation for discharge and aftercare arrangements will be included in this review.
