Mr. Martlew

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list all the land overseas which is owned by the Government, which has a defence role, giving the number of hectares; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Hanley

The Ministry of Defence owns 15 married quarters in the United States of America, five in north-west Europe, 17 in Gibraltar and two in the Bahamas for the use of serving personnel. In the Falkland Islands the Ministry of Defence owns eight aerial/radar sites. All other facilities overseas are either leased or made available under various intergovernmental agreements.
