To ask the Secretary of State for Employment, pursuant to his answer of 7 June,Official Report, column 99, what has been the cost of (a) holiday pay and (b) unpaid wages owed to employees whose employer becomes insolvent or is otherwise unable to pay in each year since 1987–88.

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State may make payment from the national insurance fund for holiday pay and unpaid wages to employees whose employer becomes insolvent. The cost of such payments for each year since 1987–88 is as follows:
