HL Deb 26 July 1993 vol 548 c82WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have considered the views expressed by the United States Air Force Chief of Staff, General Merrill McPeak, to the effect that the United States should abandon 'Cold War era ideas' about not militarising space, and should now consider the development and deployment of anti-satellite weapons (Aviation Week and Space Technology, 3rd May 1993, page 57); and whether these views have been discussed within NATO or bilaterally with the United States administration, and if so to what effect.

Viscount Cranborne

General McPeak's views reported in theAviation Week and Space Technology article of 3rd May have not been the subject of discussion involving the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom continues to have no plans to develop or deploy anti-satellite weapons.
