§ Sir George YoungInformation is reported quarterly to the Department—half-yearly before 1984—on homeless households for whom local authorities have accepted responsibility to secure permanent accommodation, under the homelessness provisions of the Housing (Homeless Persons) Act 1977 and part III of the Housing Act 1985.
The available estimates of the number of such households in temporary accommodation in England and in the north west at 31 December, including some on whom inquiries had not yet been completed, are as follows:
