HC Deb 21 July 1993 vol 229 c262W
Mr. Nigel Evans

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many terrorist attacks have been carried out in Northern Ireland in each year since 1969; and what percentage of these attacks were carried out by the Republican paramilitaries and Loyalist paramilitaries.

Sir John Wheeler

[holding answer 13 July 1993]: The available information on the number of terrorist attacks is published in the chief constable of the Royal Ulster Constabulary's annual report 1992, a copy of which is in the Library. This gives details of the number of terrorist incidents involving shootings, bombs and incendiaries. Information on how many of these were attributed to Republican and Loyalist terrorist groups is not available.

Mr. John D. Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the total cost of the film for television screening which is part of the new campaign against terrorism; how long the film lasts; how many firms were invited to tender for the preparations of this film; and what is the budget allocated for the television screening of this film.

Sir John Wheeler

[holding answer 19 July 1993]: The total production cost of the three television commercial films launched on Wednesday 7 July was £438,000. The three films last 150, 80 and 40 seconds respectively. Seven advertising agencies were invited to submit proposals for this advertising campaign. The projected expenditure for screening the films in the 1993–94 financial year is £280,000.
