HC Deb 15 July 1993 vol 228 c640W
Ms Corston

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security (1) why publication of information about population with disabilities has been discontinued in the report, "Households Below Average Income";

(2) if he will ensure that the next "Households Below Average Income" report makes specific reference to people with disabilities and includes statistical data covering disabled pensioners and recipients of disability benefits and invalidity benefits who are under pensionable age.

Mr. Burt

Information on people with disabilities was discontinued as part of the "Households Below Average Income" (HBAI) report following recommendation 4.34 of the HBAI stocktaking report published and placed in the Library in November 1991.

The family expenditure survey, the data source for the HBAI report, does not record whether an individual is disabled and the stocktaking report, expressed concern about the reliability of the data for sick and disabled people.

There are no plans to change the information provided in the next HBAI statistics.
