§ 22. Sir Thomas ArnoldTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make it his policy to encourage public debate about the future role of the Bank of England.
§ Sir John CopeI am not sure any encouragement is needed from either my right hon. and learned Friend the Chancellor or me. We are particularly interested in the contribution my hon. Friend the Member for Hazel Grove (Sir T. Arnold) and other hon. members who serve on the Treasury and Civil Service Select Committee are making in their inquiry into the future role of the Bank of England.
