To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how long it took to return clothes and possessions to John Matthews after he left court on Tuesday 6 July; how long John Matthews was in custody; and if he will estimate the total cost of holding and transporting John Matthews.

At Paddington Green police station on 6 July Mr. Matthews refused to give his written authority to hand his property to his chosen nominee. The police are currently awaiting Mr. Matthews' authority to do so.

Mr. Matthews was in custody from 27 April 1993 until his court appearance on 6 July. The estimated cost of holding and transporting him is £37,116.
