552W
§ Mr. Douglas HoggThe possible contravention of Security Council resolution 598 is a matter for the Security Council which is permanently seized of the issue. We have expressed our serious concern at these air raids to the Iranian authorities. In a letter of 25 May to the United Nations Secretary-General, the Iranian permanent representative to the United Nations said that the air raids had been carried out in self-defence on the basis of article 51 of the United Nations charter and without prejudice to Iran's policy of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq or its commitment to Security Council resolution 598.
