§ Mr. RedmondTo ask the Secretary of State for Health if she will review the procedure where general practitioner fund holders extend their role by undertaking services such as physiotherapy currently provided by community hospitals so that these services are not put in jeopardy for the majority of service users leading to a knock on adverse effect on the other services provided at the local hospital; and if he will make a statement.
§ Dr. MawhinneyGeneral practitioner fundholders, like district health authorities, are responsible for obtaining high quality health care for their patients in the most effective way. The challenge for provider units is to develop services which meet the needs of purchasers and patients.
