§ Mr. BeithTo ask the President of the Board of Trade what information he has about the availability of subsidies to industry for the purpose of staff training in foreign languages or the publication of marketing and promotional material in foreign languages in each EC country.

Mr. NeedhamMy Department's policy is to increase language awareness through encouraging the learning of languages, the development of language training and to signpost to those offering training, translation and interpreting services. The Government do not subsidise language training or translation costs for business purposes, although we do support a number of language initiatives to provide business with practical solutions.
