To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many places are currently available in women's refuge hostels in Scotland; and what is the rate per 10,000 population.

[holding answer 5 July 1993]: There are currently 283 places in women's refuge hostels in Scotland; this is 0.55 places per 10,000 population.
