§ Mr. Barry FieldTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport what studies he has made of(a) the potential regenerative effect of privatisation of trust ports in the regions and (b) the regenerative effects of such privatisations which have already taken place.
§ Mr. NorrisPrivatised trust ports will be able to broaden their capital base and, as appropriate, diversify their activities, within a framework of accountability to shareholders.
This will be to their advantage in the development of the port and the local economy which it serves. It is not therefore necessary for the Secretary of State to undertake such studies.
