Sir David Mitchell

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what representations she has had regarding the retention in St. Bartholomew's hospital of a casualty unit capable of treating cardiac failure and other life-threatening events and if she will make a statement.

Dr. Mawhinney

We have received a number of representations regarding the accident and emergency department at St. Bartholomew's hospital. Where appropriate, details have been referred to North East Thames regional health authority which was responsible for consulting on the proposed closure of the accident and emergency department.
