HC Deb 02 July 1993 vol 227 cc650-1W
Mr. Wallace

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what amount originally allocated in the 1992–93 expenditure plans for the tariff rebate subsidy for ferries to the Scottish islands was subsequently reallocated to support other public services; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lang

[ holding answer 30 June 1993] : Provision was made, through the tariff rebate subsidy scheme, for a total of £7.607 million in 1992–93 to support shipping services to the Scottish islands. The total amount actually paid to meet claims was £6.578 million. The remaining £1.029 million was redistributed to meet other priority needs within Scottish Office programmes. The Scottish Office fulfilled its contractual obligations to meet claims up to the level of each shipping operator's capping level in 1992–93.
