§ Mr. MaddenTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what discussions have taken place between Her Majesty's Government and EC Governments to increase and guarantee funds from which the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Croatia pay monthly sums to Croatian families who agree to accommodate refugees and displaced persons; what is the total of such monthly payments; what guarantees have been given to UNHCR about how long such funds will be available; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Lennox-Boyd[holding answer 1 July 1993]: The UNHCR has provided grants to Croatian families who accommodate refugees and displaced people to match those paid by the Croatian Government. The UNHCR has allocated some 18 million for this year of which some £3.3 million has been spent. The continuing needs of this programme, together with other needs in the former Yugoslavia, will be considered in detail at an UNHCR meeting of all donors, including EC Governments, in Geneva on 16 July.
