§ Mr. Simon HughesTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what consideration his Department has given to the financial consequences for the United Kingdom of the climate change convention agreed at the Earth summit; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MacleanThe cost of complying with the convention's commitments on limiting emissions of greenhouse gases will depend on what measures the Government decide to take—the Government issued a consultation paper on possible measures to limit carbon dioxide emissions last month. The United Kingdom will also be expected to contribute to the costs of the bodies established to administer the convention and towards the costs that developing countries incur in complying with their commitments.
