§ Mr. DafisTo ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will make it his policy to prohibit the import into the United Kingdom of all species defined as endangered or threatened under the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.
§ Mr. NeedhamNo. The principal instrument for the regulation of international trade in wildlife species is the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). However, in considering proposals to bring further species within the scope of CITES controls, the Government would take account of any designations made by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature together with any other relevant scientific information.
