HL Deb 26 January 1993 vol 541 c90WA
Lord Rea

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will outline their latest assessment of the current situation in Rwanda with reference to human rights abuses and the development of the peace process in that country.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

We welcome the recent announcement of the agreement on power-sharing reached at the Arusha talks between the Government of Rwanda and the Rwandan Patriotic Front. We hope that this Agreement will lead to national reconciliation, the formation of a coalition government and a reduction in political violence and human rights abuses. The European Community and its member states issued a statement on similar lines on 22nd January, a copy of which has been placed in the Libraries of the House.
