HC Deb 26 January 1993 vol 217 c638W
Mr. Win Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Education what assessment he has made of how many local education authorities and schools in each of these local education authorities communicate with parents in languages other than English in accordance with the recommendations of the Elton report.

Mr. Forth

This information is not collected centrally. It is for local authorities and schools to consider the need for communication with parents in languages other than English in the light of local needs and circumstances. The Government have made the necessary statutory provisions to enable schools and LEAs to make governors' annual reports, pupils' reports and other documents for parents available in translation where this is appropriate.
