HC Deb 26 January 1993 vol 217 c681W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what proposals he has to amend the law in potential child abuse cases when it is impossible to determine which parent was responsible; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Jack

The Government have no current plans to amend the law in this area. The privilege against self-incrimination, which may sometimes be a relevant factor in cases of this kind, is, however, a matter within the terms of reference of the Royal Commission on Criminal Justice and the Government will wish to consider carefully any general recommendations the commission may make concerning that privilege.
