Mr. DalyellTo ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what steps he is taking to maintain the dual support system in respect of departments of physics, not currently considered to be in the top research rank, to ensure that they have the funds to develop ideas that may move them up the scale.
§ Mr. Robert JacksonAll university departments can apply for research council grants to support projects. Applications are considered on their merits. Institutions are free to use their block grants from the higher education funding councils to foster promising departments.
