To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how often ships carrying radioactive waste will be passing Cardigan bay and the west Wales coast in 1993; how many ships are involved; and if he will make a statement.

We have no information to suggest that there have been any such shipments in 1993 to date or that there will be any during the remainder of this year.

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what are the current regulations regarding tankers carrying radioactive waste off Cardigan bay; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Norris

Radioactive waste must be carried in accordance with the requirements of the Merchant Shipping (Dangerous Goods and Marine Pollutants) Regulations 1990.
