§ Mr. Simon HughesTo ask the Secretary of State for Health what information is held by his Department concerning the incidence of mental health problems amongst migrants, particularly refugees and asylum seekers from the Horn of Africa, who are settled in Greater London.
§ Mr. YeoDistrict health authorities are responsible for assessing the mental health needs of their populations, including immigrants, and for providing necessary services. The Department does not, therefore, routinely collect statistics or other information on the incidence of mental disorders among immigrant populations.
Departmental officials are in discussion with the Somali counselling project about its work among the Somalian community.
