HC Deb 21 January 1993 vol 217 cc325-6W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what proposals he has for improving relations between the United Kingdom and Romania.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

We look forward to developing our relations with the new Government of Romania. My brief visit in December was a valuable first step.

We shall continue to assist Romania's programme of economic and political reform, primarily through the know-how fund. We are currently considering with the Romanian authorities significant new know-how fund-supported projects in the areas of agriculture and privatisation. The reinstatement of a measure of ECGD medium-term cover demonstrates our determination encourage British companies to compete strongly in the market.

The forthcoming signing of the EC association agreement with Romania will contribute to the strengthening of Romania's relationship with the Community and its member states.
